Accel Spark Plug Wires

A spark plug wire's task is no joke. Imagine carrying 50,000 volts multiple times a second under a 200-degree temperature. It is responsible for harnessing tens of thousands of volts and delivering this juice to the spark plugs every time, without fail. A poor-quality spark plug wire can waste your engine's energy by driving the electricity somewhere else.

Keeping The Brake System Intact

Saturday, October 20, 2007

Many parts comprise a car's brake system including brake pads, brake rotors, brake caliper, brake discs, brake pistons, and brake dusts. With such a very complex brake system, one must observe the performance of his car when it comes to braking because it is the most vital safety precaution for everybody.

Luckily, Mazda vehicles come with a complete and high-quality car brake system. Its parts are made of durable components that are bound to outlast other makes. One of these parts is the Mazda Brake Caliper, the assembly which holds the brake pads and pistons, usually aluminum- or chrome-plated iron-made.

The Mazda Brake Caliper can either be floating or fixed. A floating or sliding caliper moves according to the disc. There is a piston on one side of the disc that pushes the internal brake pad until it makes contact with the braking surface. Then, it pulls the caliper body with the external brake pad, exerting pressure on both sides of the disc. Floating caliper designs are prone to failure due to sticking, caused by dirt or corrosion if the vehicle is not operated regularly. This can cause the pad attached to the Mazda Brake Caliper to rub on the disc when the brake is released. There will be reduced fuel efficiency and excessive wear on the affected pad. Additional heat generated by the constantly rubbing pad can also lead to warping of the rotor. The second type of caliper is called a fixed caliper which moves independently. Instead, it uses one or more pairs of pistons to clamp from each side of the disc. It is more complex and expensive than a floating caliper.

The Mazda Brake Calipers play an important role in the brake system, so they should be given priority like the rest of the parts. Every part should be maintained well and constantly checked to avoid the car brake's failure.

What are BMW Spoilers for?

BMW Spoilers

Improve aerodynamics with the meticulously-made BMW Spoilers. Get the BMW Spoilers now and enjoy a smoother ride.

The inner components that a BMW vehicle are equipped with are not the only auto parts needed for accelerating. Engines may supply the chemical energy for other parts to work, but this cannot take all the hard work. Aside from the motors under the hood, the exterior components of the vehicle also help it to speed up. The German automaker BMW carefully designs and manufactures each model so that the exterior parts or body kits blend well and achieve the right aerodynamics. The well-crafted BMW Spoilers are just some of the auto parts that aid vehicles to fight off air interference.

The BMW Spoilers are perched right on top of trunks of passenger cars. Spoilers, along with the other body kit parts, help the vehicle get the right aerodynamics. Air could get trapped in some exterior parts while a vehicle is in motion. Once the air is trapped in the body of the four-wheel machine, the vehicle will more likely have difficulty in accelerating or speeding up. Such occurrence, however, can be reduced because of the well-crafted BMW Spoilers. In addition, these auto parts do not only help achieve the right air movement, but these parts are also utilized to lessen rear turbulence and to achieve stability. With these efficient BMW Parts, automobiles are now anchored properly, which means that there is better road surface and tires traction. Once the right traction has been achieved, the vehicle can now easily turn, brake, and accelerate.

Although the BMW Spoilers are most often mounted at the rear part of the vehicle, these could also be geared at the front. Manufactured underneath the bumper, the front spoiler redirects the air flow to the under body instead of to the tires.

Like the other body kit parts, such as fenders, bumpers, and side skirts, spoilers also contribute to the overall beauty of the automobile. These parts can enhance the appearance of the vehicle and make it look more muscular and tough. The BMW Spoilers are really remarkable finds because these are after all utilized for two reasons, which are for aerodynamics and aesthetic purposes.

For better road visibility of motorists

During the night, high-powered BMW Headlights help prevent accidents as it can improve road vision of motorists. Make sure to buy the BMW Headlights now to ensure your safety at night.

A sleek looking BMW vehicle cannot function without the well-made BMW parts, which include the BMW headlight assembly. As a standard system in any automobile, the German automaker Bavarian Motor Works or BMW equips its four-wheel machines with only the top-caliber BMW Headlights for optimum road illumination.

The BMW Headlights are very important auto parts because these help drivers see through the night. During nighttime driving, the headlights illuminate the road ahead, thus allowing the operator to safely maneuver the vehicle. Since road visibility of drivers is considered to be at its lowest during the night, the headlights help in that department. With the vehicle equipped with a well-functioning headlight assembly, accidents could be prevented. Although the BMW Headlights are often used during the night, these BMW parts are equally helpful during the day. The driver can use the headlights to make a signal. For example, there are two approaching vehicles along a narrow road and only one of the two could pass by first. One driver can make the headlights create a sudden flash to inform the other driver of the intention of going ahead first. Once the signal is done, the other vehicle goes into full stop and give way for the other automobile.

Aside from illuminating the path during the night, the high-powered BMW Headlights can also aid the driver during periods of snow or rain. These weather conditions can also dampen the range of vision of drivers, thus headlights are really useful for these situations. To enjoy the advantages of these BMW parts, it is only best to keep these in the tip-top shape. Wiping these clean or installing protective auto parts, such as headlight covers and headlight guards, can do the trick.

Headlights, which are also called headlamps, are also utilized by other modes of transportation such as bicycles and trains. This only shows that these auto parts are really that important for a more convenient and safe driving. Every year, road accidents have resulted to more than a million fatalities worldwide, thus it really helps that a vehicle is equipped with high-performing auto parts, like the BMW Headlights, to prevent such accidents.

Put some quality in your brake system

After 75 years in the automobile industry, Audi is one of the few automotive companies able to boast of vehicles that set exacting standards in manufacturing innovation that both patrons and enthusiasts in the industry recognize. As the oldest German-established automaker, Audi continues to make certain that every part of their cars—whether they be exterior or interior—are in in excellent condition. This includes Audi Brake Parts, within which Audi Brake Pads are certain to be part of. Making sure that the cars and car parts the company manufactures are perfectly formed, in terms of engine and construction quality, is a must for Audi. Audi is, after all, known for producing automobiles that are not only exceptional in looks but on the road as well. This also ensures that the vehicles are safe to use.

When it comes to cars and car developments, none can deny that numerous innovations in the automobile industry have already sprang up. While these may have certainly led to the development of additional features, the car's basic automotive systems remain important. One of these is the brake system. Brake systems determine the kind of Audi brake parts in a car model. Drum brake systems employ parts different from those in disc brake systems. Many cars have drum brakes on the rear wheels and disc brakes on the front, but most modern cars are now manufactured with disc brakes for all four wheels. More parts are needed for drum bakes and a bit harder to service, but are less expensive. Drum brakes work the same way disc brakes do. Both systems employ shoes that press against a spinning surface.

Modern cars the likes Audi has introduced into the market often employ Audi Brake Parts within a disc brake system. This set-up allows Audi Brake Pads to be of great use. Brake pads are usually steel backing plates that come with friction material. This friction material is often bound to the surface facing the brake disc or drum. In such conditions, Audi Brake Pads are able convert kinetic energy to thermal energy by way of friction. The caliper and rotor helps brake pads along in this process. Coming in contact with either a drum or rotor heats the brake pad up, allowing for friction to bear against the disc in small measures. A car's stopping power involves such instances when the brake rotor and disc are fully engaged. Over-all stopping power, of course, requires Audi Brake Pads on the whole. Depending on the intended use, there are numerous types of brake pads available. The quality of brake pads and brake system parts, too, differ depending on the manufacturer. Installing better quality brake pads like that of Audi Brake Pads can certainly optimize a vehicle's brake system ideally well.

For Better Performance and Drive

V6 Eclipse Cold Air Intake

It is true that V6 Eclipse manufactured by Mitsubishi is already sporting great performance as it is, considering its one of the respected sports coupe compact vehicle in its time. However, it would not hurt to try and improve its performance more. That is why installing in a cold air intake is one of the good choices that owners of this model could do.

The V6 Eclipse cold air intake is actually a system that is composed of tubes with large diameters. These large diameter tubes allow for larger amounts of oxygen to be taken in by the cold air intake, which would then provide for a more efficient burn. And what does efficient burn result to? More horsepower, naturally. Moreover, that’s not the only difference it has with the stock factory air intakes in vehicles. Apparently, as what its name suggests, it only breathes in the cold air from outside the engine bay. Doing so also decreases the chance of the engine experiencing the pressure of heat from combustion, because cold air neutralizes the temperature of the engine. This results to the engine maintaining its operating temperature level.

Another strength of the cold air intake is that its tubes have smooth interiors. These smooth interiors give way for the smooth passage of cold air as well. This is perhaps the reason why it gives off an appealing intake sound unlike the restrictive airbox. Making the engine bay look more appealing is also one of the benefits that the V6 Eclipse cold air intake provides.

For car owners wanting to get the taste of what cold air intakes have to offer, they could easily get these from auto parts stores or dealers. They would also be happy to know that this auto parts does not cost much. Its usual price is less than $120, making it within reach of everyone’s budget. It just means that V6 Eclipse owners could still get more vehicle performance at a really affordable cost.

SUBARU CATALYTIC CONVERTER

SUBARU

Nobody would appreciate a car that leaks off thick, black smoke in its wake, even if it is from a quality brand such as a Subaru model. Therefore, owners should monitor the working condition of their Subaru Catalytic converter in order to maintain that delightfully clean and clear emission.

As a backgrounder, the catalytic converter was introduced during the mid-1970s as a means to reduce your car’s toxic pollutants, which in turn aims to improve society’s air pollution problem. However, due to the relentless environmental deterioration that has occurred as years passed, this useful alternative has ingrained itself into a vehicular necessity. An environmental law has in fact been passed that requires the inclusion of a catalytic converter on every vehicle.

So how does your Subaru catalytic converter actually function? As its main goal is to convert harmful fumes into nontoxic emissions, it would only be natural that it is incorporated in the exhaust system assembly. And with its strategic positioning just ahead of the muffler, your Subaru catalytic converter is given a much easier time to process, dissect, and eliminate the harmful fumes. Its initial step is to sort through the smoke and separate the oxygen element from the carbon monoxide with the aid of a reduction catalyst. And then, through the use of a metallic catalyst and a honeycomb structure, it eliminates stubborn organic carbons that should have been earlier burned off by the engine. The result is a much cleaner and detoxified exhaust fumes that is then released to the environment.

As your Subaru catalytic converter is quite valuable, every means should be made in order to ensure its proper, working condition. There are times that the formed exhaust may be too heavy or too polluted in its consistency, thus regular cleaning and check-ups are required. If however, your Subaru catalytic converter has already been damaged beyond repair by its numerous fights for the environment, then don’t hesitate to make a replacement. A malfunctioning catalytic converter is no use for your car and would only add more damage to your whole exhaust assembly.

BMW Weighs in With Midsize SUV

Sunday, July 15, 2007

Vehicle Analysis:

The BMW X5 3.Osi 2007-model is a premium midsize SUV right up there with the Lexus’ RX and Porche Cayenne, as fully-equipped as any of its peers in the upmarket class. The 3.0L 24-valve 6-cylinder test
model with a perky 260 hp and the new Steptronic gear selection with Adaptive Transmission Control plus an intelligent x-drive all-wheel drive system imparted a smooth ride on even the roughest road surfaces. A 6-speed manual transmission is available, as are optional 315 hp and 355 hp V-8 engines.

Standard features abound, including self-leveling rear suspension, heated steering wheel, 4-zone climate control (includes 3rd row), digital compass mirror, 18-inch alloy wheels, Xenon adaptive headlights with automatic headlight control and universal garage door opener, to name a few.

Suggested price for the test model was $45,900. Add-ons include special Nevada leather seating ($1,450), 3rd row seat ($1,700), panoramic moon roof ($1,350), rear window blinds ($250), heated front seats ($500), park distance control ($700), rear seat entertainment system ($1,800), BMW assist (similar to OnStar) with Bluetooth system ($750), and destination charges ($695) for a total price of $65,095.

The X5 with AT averaged 14-16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, compared to EPA ratings of 17 and 23 – not great, but Bimmer devotees treasure their cars as much for 50% resale value against fuel savings.

Safety and Convenience:
Standard features abound in the safety sector as well, including dual threshold “smart” front-seat airbags, side impact airbags and head protection system both front and rear. Standard also is 4-wheel and antilock disc brakes with Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, Dynamic Brake Control and hill descent control. Hill descent control takes charge of steep downhill movements as quickly as possible in mountainous-like areas.

Standard halogen fog lights have a cornering lights function exclusive in the X5’s league of SUVs. Other standard features include power-heated door mirrors, front/rear obstacle protection, rear window wiper/washer/defroster with rain-sensing wipers.
000’s precise variable-assist power steering system, always an industry leader, has been even more refined on the X3. BMW has tested the X3’s front and rear bumpers at impact speeds of 2.5 mph without body damage.

Basic BMW limited warranty includes 4-years/50,000-miles full maintenance program, a 12-year rust perforation warranty and roadside assistance program for 4 years/unlimited mileage.

Observations:
The X5 introduces push-button engine starting and stopping, a definite theft repellent. The Nevada
leather seating is extra-special and extremely comfortable. For those who treasure serenity while driving, the X5 is one of the quietest vehicles on the road, enhanced by the 18-inch alloy wheels.

Cargo volume is limited, compared to other premium midsize SUV contenders, even when the rear seats are folded down. BMW’s answer to GM’s OnStar is the exclusive assist emergency/concierge service – a must whether on an autobahn or Interstate.

Volvo S80 Sedan Delivers Sophisticated Styling

Vehicle Analysis:

The Volvo S80 sedan is indisputably the Swedish brand’s most stylish model yet, with handsome interior trim that marks it as a solid player in the premium niche. The tested 3.2L 6-cylinder alloy engine (Britishbuilt) with DOHC, generating 235 hp, has continuous variable valve timing and a unique variable intake system. The 6-speed Geartronic AT is also at the top in performance, since it features “adaptive shift logic” and a winter mode so necessary in Volvo’s home base of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Base price on tested front-wheel-drive model is $38,705. Adding metallic paint ($475), adaptive cruise control ($1,495), the unique Volvo Personal Car Communicator ($495) that provides 2-way remote messaging of the vehicle’s security status, plus a heartbeat sensor, and destination charges ($695) and the sticker price is $41,865.

Lots of standard features, not the least of which is a power glass moon roof, plus 17-inch Meissa wheels with all-season tires, driver/front passenger 8-way power seats with remote memory and lumbar support, heated power outside mirrors, electronic climate control and foot-operated parking brake to name a few.

The tested model fell below the sticker EPA fuel ratings of 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway by 10%, but still not too shabby for a brand flagship.

Safety and Convenience:

Volvo trumps all others when it comes to safety. The advanced side impact airbags and an inflatable curtain head protection system and power foldable rear-seat headrests, whiplash protection in the driver and front passenger seats, plus Dynamic Stability traction control and turn signal indicators in the outside rearview mirrors are all standard. The fog lights are integrated in front and rear, the steering wheel column is “adaptive”, door locks have an immobilizer and an encrypted ignition key. Adaptive cruisecontrol is new, keeping drivers at a safe following distance.

The unibody construction stands out with its high-steel passenger safety cage. The fully independent suspensions have an anti-roll bar and anti-dive geometry in front and a multi-link feature in the rear.

Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering makes the heavier S80 easy to navigate over sharp turns.

The basic Volvo limited warranty runs for 4-year/50,000-miles and includes the powertrain with 12-year corrosion protection and unlimited mileage. Volvo adds on-call road assistance for the first four years.

Observations:

Volvo has literally thought of everything, including a lengthy list of options that can be added to an already long list of standard features. Seating ergonomics, sight lines and long-trip comfort are raised to premium levels in the S80. The leather seats are top-quality and, unlike higher-priced rivals, eschew plastic for real wood inlays. Car is started by push-button on the IP, a neat feature that prevents freeze-up in subzero weather or key breakage.

Test vehicle 6-cylinder was front-wheel-drive only. The V-8 does come with all-wheel-drive. An AWD 6 is clearly an oversight which Volvo says may happen for 2008.

Autos.com:

4 stars for performance/handling, 5 stars for passenger space, comfort and convenience.
“When it comes to ride comfort, feature content and uncompromised safety, the S80 excels, but for those who prefer a little sport in their sedans, the S80 will leave you wishing for more.”
